- Gearhouse Broadcast enlists Harris outside broadcast solutions for two new trucks.
- Harris infrastructure technology helps TRT to migrate to HDTV for mobile production.
- New trucks debut at IAAF World Indoor Athletics Championships in Istanbul.
MELBOURNE, FL/WINNERSH, UK, April 10, 2012 — International systems integration (SI) company Gearhouse Broadcast has installed a Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) mobile production solution for two new high-definition outside broadcast vehicles for Turkish state broadcaster TRT (Turkey Radio and Television Corporation). The complete, interoperable Harris infrastructure gives TRT a reliable and efficient technology backbone for live production.
Both trucks — designed, constructed and commissioned by Gearhouse Broadcast — made their debut with TRT at last month's IAAF World Indoor Athletics Championships in Istanbul. As part of the international broadcast center, the trucks provided HDTV signals to more than 100 countries and a global viewing audience of many millions.
The rugged Harris solution for the truck infrastructure includes Harris® Platinum™ integrated routing to support video and audio traffic, customizable Navigator™ monitoring and control software, Videotek® test and measurement gear, and modular, cost-effective 6800+™ core processing systems. A compact Harris® HView™ QS QVM6800+ multiviewer solution provides multi-window signal monitoring throughout the trucks' production areas.
The two 11-camera trucks, which also feature professional switching and audio production equipment, are identical and can operate independently or create a single, integrated facility.
"These new outside broadcast trucks are very comfortable for broadcast — they make the production of fantastic HDTV programs so much easier," said Deniz San, sports director, TRT Sports Channel. "It is still early but we can say that TRT was totally prepared to televise this international sports event and many other types of event in high definition."
Few SI companies have a pedigree that matches Gearhouse Broadcast in terms of its ability to meet the needs of customers in international markets. Its selection of technology suppliers illustrates this understanding of what it takes to match TRT's HD outside broadcast needs.
"When you are building an elegant truck capable of supporting both standard and high definition video and audio, it is important to identify a brand and technology that puts the heart of the truck together. For us, that brand is Harris," said Eamonn Dowdall, business development director at Gearhouse Broadcast's parent company, Gravity Media Group. "We needed an architecture and technical structure that integrates all key components under one operating system and user interface to fit TRT's needs."
"Turkey has a youthful, vibrant and ambitious culture that places it on the leading edge of HD in its region," said Harris Morris, president, Harris Broadcast Communications. "Our ability to work closely with Gearhouse Broadcast to meet the needs of this dynamic international market demonstrates the quality of our technical solution and our ambitions to grow this important broadcast market segment."
