Without fans and coolers, modern high-powered AV equipment, computer processors and servers quite literally wouldn't be able to take the heat. Because most units take in cold air at the front and expel it at the back, it's important that equipment is properly arranged to avoid overheating in close quarters. The hot aisle/cold aisle system—in which servers are arranged in rows with fronts facing fronts and backs facing backs—has been largely adopted.
